Origins of Fanmans Fanshop - How eight years of Berlin's techno scene have produced a better fan

Fanman was not created in a studio.

Not in a business plan.

Fanman originated on the dance floor.

Eight years of moving air – right in the heart of Berlin techno

I've been part of the Berlin techno scene for over eight years . Clubs, open-air events, festivals, long nights, packed dance floors. And almost always with me: two fans .

Not as an accessory.

But as a tool.

I realized early on what many only understand after their third summer:

A refreshing breeze on the floor is not a nice-to-have, but a survival strategy.

When the air is still, bodies are packed tightly together, and the bass never stops, air movement determines whether you can keep dancing – or have to get out.

The reality with standard compartments

Over the years, I've used pretty much every commercially available fan you can get your hands on. And every single one had the same problems:

Too thin a fabric

After a few intense nights: stretched out, flapping, no real air left. Lots of movement, little effect.

Poor quality bamboo walkways – or just plastic ones.

Bamboo that splinters. Plastic that bends. Both feel wrong – and don't last long.

The axle: breaks, wobbles, is annoying

The biggest problem in almost all subjects:

The axle loosens, starts to wobble, or breaks apart completely.

Exactly when you need them.

No grip

Sweat, movement, darkness.

You constantly slip and slide on smooth outer walkways. You lose control, the flow is broken.

Where do you put it when you don't need it for a short time?

The classic:

You want to have both hands free for a moment.

But where do you put a huge fan?

Annoying in your hand. Impossible in your pocket. Putting it on the floor? Not an option.

From persistent problem to solution

At some point it became clear:

If I'm going to be using fans all the time anyway, why am I accepting all these problems?

So I started developing solutions. Not theoretically, but from practice:

  • A more stable fabric that moves air and does not give way.

  • Carefully selected bamboo that can withstand stress.

  • An axle that doesn't wobble and doesn't break.

  • Engraved handles so you can maintain control even with sweaty hands.

  • And the crucial question:

How do I carry a fan when I'm not using it?

The answer was a holster system , inspired by functionality rather than fashion – the fan stays with you without bothering you.

Fanmans fans are not products – they are an experience!

Fanman's fans are the result of:

  • thousands of hours on dance floors

  • countless broken compartments

  • real heat, real confinement, real movement

Every decision regarding the product stems from a moment on the floor when something didn't work .

Why Fanman exists

Not to follow trends.

Not to produce cheaply.

But to take a simple problem seriously:

People need good air to be able to dance safely and for long periods of time.

Fanman's fans originated from the scene – for the scene.

And that's exactly where they belong: on the dance floor.
